success rate of airway devices insertion: laryngeal mask airway versus supraglottic gel device

چکیده
results in the i-gel group, the success rate was 66.7% for placement on the first attempt, 16.7% for the second, and 3.33% for the third attempt. in the lma group, the success rates were 80.6% and 12.9% for the first and second attempts, respectively. failure in placement occurred in four cases in the i-gel and two cases in lma groups. the mean insertion time was not significantly different between two groups (21.35 seconds in lma versus 27.96 seconds in i-gel, p = 0.2). the incidence of postoperative complications was not significantly different between study groups. conclusions i-gel can be inserted as fast as lma with adequate ventilation in patients and has no major airway complications. therefore, it could be a good alternative to lma in emergency airway management or general anesthesia. objectives this study sought to assess the success rate of airway management using lma and i-gel in elective orthopedic surgery. patients and methods this single-blinded randomized clinical trial was performed on 61 asa class 1 and 2 patients requiring minor orthopedic surgeries. patients were randomly allocated to two groups of lma and i-gel. supraglottic airway placement was categorized into three groups regarding the number of placement attempts, i.e. on the first, second, and third attempts. unsuccessful placement on the third attempt was considered failure and endotracheal tube was used in such cases. the success rate, insertion time, and postoperative complications such as bleeding, sore throat, and hoarseness were recorded. background the main important method for airway management during anesthesia is endotracheal intubation. laryngeal mask airway (lma) and supraglottic gel device (i-gel) are considered alternatives to endotracheal tube.

Success Rate of Airway Devices Insertion: Laryngeal Mask Airway Versus Supraglottic Gel Device
BACKGROUND The main important method for airway management during anesthesia is endotracheal intubation. Laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and supraglottic gel device (I-Gel) are considered alternatives to endotracheal tube. OBJECTIVES This study sought to assess the success rate of airway management using LMA and I-Gel in elective orthopedic surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS This single-blinded rand...
متن کاملHemodynamic responses to insertion of the laryngeal mask airway versus Combitube
Introduction: One of the most common problems during laryngoscopy involves sympathetic system stimulation and the subsequent hemodynamic changes. It is a key measure to maintain the hemodynamic stability of patients with cardiovascular diseases during induction of anesthesia. This study attempted to compare the hemodynamic effects of laryngeal mask airway and combitube. Methods: This prospec...
متن کاملA comparison of supraglottic airway i-gel™ vs. classic laryngeal mask airway in small children
BACKGROUND i-gel™ is a new single-use supraglottic airway device without an inflatable cuff. This study was designed to compare the usefulness of i-gel™ versus a classic laryngeal mask airway (cLMA) in small children. METHODS Sixty-three children (age range : 4-72 months) were randomly assigned to an i-gel™ or cLMA group. We evaluated hemodynamic data, airway sealing ability, the success rate...
متن کاملComparative study between I-gel, a new supraglottic airway device, and classical laryngeal mask airway in anesthetized spontaneously ventilated patients
OBJECTIVE To compare two different supraglottic airway devices, the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and the I-gel, regarding easiness of insertion of the device, leak pressure, gastric insufflation, end tidal CO2, oxygen saturation, hemodynamic and postoperative complications in anesthetized, spontaneously ventilated adult patients performing different non-emergency surgical procedures. MATERIALS...
متن کاملBreastfeeding success after laryngeal mask airway resuscitation.
BACKGROUND Positive pressure resuscitation by laryngeal mask airway (LMA) may expose the neonate to gas leak and gastric air insufflation, influencing postnatal gastrointestinal adaptation and breastfeeding success. METHODS Term neonates admitted to regular nursery of the Department of Pediatrics of Padua University (Italy), from January 2005 to December 2005, after positive pressure resuscit...

Cursul Na]ional de Ghiduri [i Protocoale în ATI As anesthesiologists we spend a respectable part of our career maintaining the airway. Theoretically, every anesthesiologist should be familiar with, and well practiced in a variety of the airway techniques that are available, so that when an airway problem occurs, it can be managed with a solid armamentarium of information and experience. However...
